About Destinations

In the past, most people in Celuk Village were farmers. Rumor has it that three families from the Pande caste, known for their metalworking skills, started the silver and gold crafting industry. As tourism grew in Bali, many villagers left farming to learn this craft. By 1976, almost all villagers were silversmiths, making Celuk famous for its beautiful jewelry and silver handicrafts. When you visit, it feels like a jewelry exhibition, with art shops lining the road showcasing their best pieces. You can admire and buy these items, and many vendors accept custom orders. Most of them speak enough English to communicate with tourists. Ubud is a town in the central foothills of Gianyar, surrounded by rice paddies, farms, and tourist accommodations. Known as an arts and cultural center, Ubud has a large tourism industry and is famous for its traditional Balinese paintings, where artists may spend a year on a single canvas, featuring repeating figures and themes from nature, history, or religion, using the few natural colors available. The people of Ubud live in harmony with nature and practice religious activities almost daily, holding various ceremonies like Tumpek Uduh to respect plants, Tumpek Kandang for animals, and Tumpek Landep for metal objects. These ceremonies involve special prayers and blessings at the village temple.
