G20 Agriculture Ministers Field Trip

Jatiluwih, Bali

29 Sep - 29 Sep 2022

In honor of the G20 Agriculture Ministerial Meeting (AMM) that was held at Jimbaran, Bali, on 27 - 28 September 2022, the Host Government (Ministry of Agriculture the Republic of Indonesia) invited Ministers and delegates to take part in the one day Field Trip Program to Jatiluwih Village on the lower slope of Mount Batukaru on 29 September 2022. Attended by more than 150 participants, the program was designed to showcase Bali's unique culture and heritage including rural villages, terraced rice fields, the beauty of nature and landscapes as well as local cultural activities. Jatiluwih village is located in Penebel District, Tabanan Regency, approximately 61 kilometers from Bali International Airport or about 2 hours drive. Jatiluwih nowadays has become a tourist destination that was designated as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2012. Jatiluwih Rice Terrace is famous for its views of thousands of hectares of rice fields in the form of terraces from hilly areas to valley areas. These are maintained by a traditional water management cooperative known as 'subak', which dates back to the 9th century. The cooperative itself eventually won recognition as a dominant factor in Bali's 'cultural landscape' entry on the heritage list. The view of terraced rice fields gives a simple but charming impression. With the natural coolness of the mountains and the beauty of the terraces, it can be a solution for visitors who want to enjoy the other side of Bali, namely the tranquility and comfort of Bali Island. During the visit, local people of Jatiluwih entertained the delegates by performing an 'Okokan Music' procession.
