AQABA Process Southeast Asia is an initiative created by King Abdullah II, the Kingdom of Jordan, in 2015 to bring together representatives of government officials, technology practitioners, and civil society to enhance coordination at the global level and exchange information and expertise in efforts to counter terrorism and extremism online and offline using a holistic approach. AQABA high level tech meeting was held at a 5-star The Stones Hotel Legian Autograph Collection, attended by delegates from 16 countries including the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, India, England, Japan, Cambodia, France, New Zealand, and Singapore. The meeting was also attended by technology companies such as Microsoft, Meta, Tik Tok, YouTube, and Google. All delegates agreed on the importance of the role of the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) and the Christchurch Call to Action which includes the exchange of information, research, and best practices in preventing radicalization through the internet, especially in Southeast Asia. HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II and Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein were also present at the meeting and outlined two important topics namely (a) Means of Maintaining Coordination and Consultation to Counter Terrorism and Extremism Threats and (b) The Importance of Stepping Up Efforts to Counter Terrorist and Extremist Rhetoric Online. The AQABA meeting in Bali was initiated by Indonesian National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT).
