The United Nations Tourism Regional Conference on the Empowerment of Women in
Tourism in Asia and the Pacific was successfully organized at the Bali International Convention
Center in Nusa Dua. This significant event attracted 450 participants from 42 countries,
underscoring the crucial role of women in fostering quality, inclusive, and sustainable tourism.
The conference was inaugurated by Mr. Harry Hwang, Director of the Regional Department
for Asia and the Pacific at the UN Tourism, who was joined by several notable figures: Mrs.
Angela Tanoesoedibjo, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy RI; Mrs. Thet Thet
Khine, Minister of Tourism of Myanmar; Mrs. Mariyam Nasheetha Nasheed, Deputy Minister
of Tourism of Maldives; and Mr. Dewa Made Indra, Regional Secretary of Bali Province. H.E.
Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy RI, also graced the
event, delivering a compelling speech on the transformative influence of women in boosting
international tourism, promoting sustainable practices, and advancing the creative economy
from local to global levels. The conference, initiated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative
Economy of Indonesia, received full support from The Bali Tourism Polytechnic, highlighting
a collaborative effort to empower women in the tourism sector.
